Torquay.

Torquay
Summer is a great time of year to head down to your local beach and enjoy the water.  My go to beach for summer would be Torquay – although it is not the closest beach to me it is certainly one of the nicest.

At about a 1.5/2 hour drive Torquay has both the main beach and the back beach to suit all needs.  The ‘main beach’ is a bay and a little more suited to families, restricted swimmers and those looking to relax at a slower pace. The ‘back beach’ however is usually sprinkled with surfers, body boarders, families and sightseer’s alike.  This beach can have strong rips and waves which is why the local surf life saving club is based along this strip.

I prefer the back beach and would suggest bringing a beach tent as unlike the main beach there is no readily available shade.   If you are travelling Australia or live in Melbourne (and for some bizarre reason have never made the drive) Torquey is a unmissable beach destination.

I would also recommend popping down to Surfcoast Wholefoods for a healthy pre-or post beach feast.  Keep your eyes peeled for my post dedicated to Surfcoast Wholefoods and why is in one of the best brunch/lunch spots in Victoria! This gem of a grocery store/cafe stock a huge array of certified organic bulk items, fresh produce, fridge / frozen goods and natural & organic grocery items. Find them here: Torquay Central. Shop 104, 41 Bristol Road. Torquay VIC, Australia 3228.
